Rear Fender Flares Installation Help

Hi,

I got the aluminum running boards installed on my 02 4.4i yesterday. They are putting on the 4.6 kit now. I asked them follow the installation tips posted on this forum (dremel the clips and glue on, etc).

However, I also got the 4 pieces of the wider rear fender flares. How should we install them? I heard I have to cut the clips off in the middle and glue the edge? My guys said it's not secure and the glue may not hold it. The flares from the al running boards do not have the "slots" for me to use the clips that come with the wider fender flares.

I did search the forums and read through most of the posts but still couldn't find the answer for installation.

Do you guys have any installation guides/tips? Thanks in advance.

I just installed these fender flares. You need a dremel, and you must cut out slots for each tongue on the fender. Then you must fasten each tongue on the inside. You must take off the original flare and rear bumper for the easiest way to install these extensions. Son't rush it because you will be unhappy with the quality. Do not Use Glue...DO NOT I REPEAT. The dealership might carry the locking fasteners for the tongues, if no you can try and melt the tongue over( that what I did) Good Luck

thanks, jst2878. It makes sense to cut out slots. But I think it's pretty hard to make it align perfectly?

So you didn't buy the 4 pieces of wider fender flares that will fit the running boards (instead of the regular 4.6is flares)? They are about the same price and they would have made your life easier. Can you return those 4 flares and get the ones for the AL running boards?

I got those 4 pieces from a friend of mine for a pretty good price. Then I decided to put on the al running boards...If it's too much trouble, I may just sell them and keep it like that.
