Is the door handle actually moving from the outside when you try to open it? May be a bad actuator in the door lock. Common malady.

Same thing happened to my '01 and it was the lock actuator. Have it looked at, there may be a TSB about it.

there's a screw near the door pocket, remove that.
remove the trim (door panel removal tool highly suggested).
remove those screws.
use door panel tool to remove side airbag symbol.
remove bolt.
remove light on the bottom of the door.
at that point, pull on the door from the bottom to
release the clips. it's quite snug and steardy.

it mostlikely is the carrier

mine broke in an ice storm. takes about 4 hours to fix and costs 75 bucks.

-remove your trim
-unbolt and tape the airbag to the door to gain access to the hole without disconnecting it.
-pop the plastic jelly bean above the door clamp
-unbolt the torque screw
-go inside hte door and unbolt the rest of the carier
-pop tohe wire off of the carrier
-turn the exterior door handle counter clockwise afer you remove the lock

do that all in revierse to put it back together. PM me with any quesitons.
