Question A few problems with the X

Hi all,

Been lurking here for a while before and after we picked up our 4.4is last month. Since then we've had a few issues...

1. Comfort seat memory - Originally the X wasn't programmed to remember the seat memory per key. We got this fixed but when unlocking the seat moves but doesn't move all the way back to it's programmed setting. I've set the key a number of times but no joy.

2. Alarm - Intermittently the alarm goes off when unlocking the car. I know there's a panic alarm that can be activated through the key but all I do is press the up arrow and 'wham' the alarm goes off, and it's a loud one!

3. Uphill gear change - When going uphill the X won't change gear. I have to drop it into manual before it redlines. I have a particular hill near my home where it does this but only intermittently.

Anyway we're going to drop it in to the dealer when we get the chance but I was hoping to see if anyone here has some insight to any of these issues.

Cheers,

Danny

I know you want answers instead of company; but my 3 month old 4.4i just started setting its alarm off on my last week. It does it about every three days now. I thought I was just accidently holding down the trunk button as I approached.

Congrats on your new X5! Regarding the false alarm, it happened to me a couple of time with my old 4.6is but the dealer never could figured out what was wrong. I read it somewhere on RoadFly that some guy had the same problem and the dealer performed a software upgrade and the problem went away (???).

Hi Danny, the gearbox will adapt but it seems to take at least 1000 miles before the base parameters are established (from new). If it doesn't improve then take it to your dealer for a gearbox software upgrade.

I'm not sure if it will help with your alarm problems, but 100% if my alarm issues went away after I disconnected the hood tampering sensor.

Hi all, thanks for the replies. I'll talk to the dealer about the hood sensor and see how the gearbox adapts over the next few weeks.

Cheers,

Danny

I purchased my 3.0 X5 about three weeks ago. So far the issues I have had are:

When the dealer installed my tow hitch the power switches for the rear seats stopped working.

The passenger headlight is not sealed properly and gets water etc. inside of it constantly...

Not a big deal really and I'm sure the dealer will take care of both items whenever I get the time to drop it off to them.

Outside of that I've had a bit of sticker shock at how much gas the thing eats up. This is my first sport ute so it is taking a bit to get used to the gas guzzling and $58 fill ups.
