Unusual Dash Lights Problem.

Tonight for no apparent reason while driving all the dash lights (orange glow) went out. Along with this the turn signals stopped working and I was unable to get the high beams to come on. (Low beam only.) After I got home I found that the hazard switch was inop and that the low beams came on with the ignition regardless of the headlamp switch position. A few time in the 5 minute journey home the dash lights would flash on then off again. Very unusual!

Should I assume that you rolled the reostat up and down to try and reactivate the dash lights?

Yep and hit the hazard switch and turned the light switch on and off and also the ignition. It seemed to have a mind of its own! I expect it to be the lights computer but now that it has cooled off nothing will show. Waiting for stealer to call.............

Just spoke with dealer. Suspect the computer is crashing with intermittent problem. Being flat bedded in to have the problem fixed??? I checked while waiting and now it's cooled down everything works again.

Isn't that amazing that you X5 always behaves nicely in the hands of the dealer? That's what happened to mine whenever they brought it to them for problems. "Sorry, but we can't reproduce it".

As it's their dime I'm going to make them keep changing things until it goes away.
If it were my dime I'd trade it!

I believe the exact terminology is "Can not duplicate, vehicle is operating at manufacturers specifications"

Just checked the wiring diagram. There are 4 fuses connected to the lights computer. Dealer suspects computer has problem. Overnight stay at least!
