take all the power you are giving them, so one can "gun it" to get forward motion in situs where the DSC induced wheel braking is not what you want, eg steep hills, rocking, etc. On our non-XDrive '01, I've found that "steady state" throttle around the few flat roads bacl on the Mtn, allowed DSC to be almost transparent and quite effective. On our mostly very steep roads, punching off DSC allowed increased wheel spin, which combined with winter tires, was the only way we were getting up the Mtn in winter. Moot, now that we winter in FL.
