Has Anyone installed Voice Recognition in 2006 X5??

I've read in one of the posts providing instructions for installing a voice recognition module into an X5 but need more reassurance that it can be done since it appears that the installation instruction was originally for the 500 series BMWs. I would appreciate someone clearing this upp for me because I'd like to install one if possible.

Thanks...

I heard that the 2006 X5 comes with VR module. Not that exciting though as there are very limited set of commands. few members have installed teh VR module on their X5s.

The only VR is for the phone and not the navigation. I want to add VR for navigation and I've been hearing that a VR module from other BMW vehicles will work but my confidence level is not high enough that I want to try it.

would like to do this also

I also have a 2006 X5 and would like to attempt this (after I finish my current project, hopefully soon). I looked at the DIY in articles but doesn't look like it will cover the X5, as the wiring is not as shown in the article.

According to article this is a TRUE plug and play so it looks like it's something even I could do( well maybe). But as with most mods the issue is with the X5 wiring and there is no blue plug as shown in my X5.

So if anyone has done this, could you give a hint as to where the blue plug might be located.

Thanks
Dennis

I had the dealer install the VR module on my 2005 X5 with factory Bluetooth and Assist, so I'm pretty sure it can be done to your 2006. I think the dealer only charged me for an hour of install time so I imagine it is a pretty straight forward process.

already have Bluetooth and Assist

phil47,
I already have Bluetooth and Assist. looking at the article, looks like you just plug in the module, if you can find the blue plug. I don't like local dealer ( now owned by autonation) so I would rather do this myself if it's just P&P.

Thanks for response.

I wasn't very clear...I also had my 2005 arrive from the factory with Bluetooth and Assist (and Nav). I added the VR module a few months later as a quick upgrade. Dealer did a nice job of mounting the module securely (I also have Nav and the CD changer so it's a bit of a rat's nest back there). According to the dealer, the only reason they needed to be involved was to "code" the system afterwards...I'm not convinced about that but it would be the only thing that would not make this 100% plug and play...

I'm trying to track down my invoice (no luck so far).

Phil

Do you need the VR module to get hotels, restaurant info on NAV?

From other threads, I see that the VR/Nav module allows you to ask Nav to locate hotels, etc. Is there any way to have Nav locate hotels, restaurants or other points of interest without the VM? Have you otherwise found the module useful?
thanks
