Thats in your head, you didn't lose any power at all. All you did was free up the air movement

Not yet. I just picked it up a couple hours ago. I will work on getting a sound clip for you. I have had the 4.8 for a year now and trust me the sound I heard when I picked it up today made my jaw hit the floor.

I did a resonator removal on my '05 4.8, and I decided to replace it with a crosspipe (Flowmaster Tru-X) instead of straight pipes, because of what I read in this article (link below). http://www.xoutpost.com/articles/x5/e...-x5-4-6is.html Synopsis: another boardmember experienced a loss of power when removing resonators and replacing with straight pipes. When he then replaced the straight pipes with smaller, individual resonators (think not-for-street-use glas packs), he achieved the audible improvement he wanted, without a corresponding power loss. When you remove the factory resonators, you WILL decrease backpressure, which can (and tends to) reduce torque. I learned this same lesson from other E39 M5 owners that tried resonator removals altogether. I installed a SuperSprint x-pipe in that case, and experienced the audio improvement I wanted without any power/torque loss. In that case, I verified pre/post performance on a dyno. I must say I've done no dyno verification in the case of my X5. Good luck in getting what you want outta your 4.8! -Dave

It's probably like Teutonaddict said. You loose low end torque with less back pressure. Next time you pull up behind a 330, look at the inside exhaust pipe. You'll se a little butterly valve in there that will close when someone pulls away from the stoplight. It'll open again later on for increased airflow. It's to help with low end torque.
Maybe install the glass pakcs or X-pipe? It's a catch-22 since if you increase back pressure too much, you'll lose power up top. |

Why not leave well enough alone.
What is the point of doing this? Less power and more noise?

I've mentioned this before and I'll do it again...
I haven't seen many, wait a minute, any dyno'd X5's. So I couldn't say for sure you lost or gained anything. All I know is that cars I have done this on in the past gained power. While it is very true removing back pressure lessens torque (this is the trouble with modding turbo cars) it also tends to bump horsepower a notch or two. So, unless you are a serious mod person, meaning you actually dyno your ride stock and dyno after mods, it really doesn't matter. If you enjoy the vehicle and your customized version of it...ROCK ON. That is the goal. You already said you loved the sound, go with it. Some quick notes on modding from a person who has modded track cars and well as first place show cars: - Performance numbers on a box or from a vendor are NEVER accurate. - Don't go by what another person told you they got out of a mod, I don't care if the vehicle is the same make/model..all cars are different when it comes to this. - Do mods in a succession, if you open up the exhaust..open up the intake. If you run Nitrous, upgrade your fuel system..etc. - Simple mods are a lot of fun and can give you the feeling of speed with out the result from it. My credentials: - First place show winning 1997 Honda Prelude, full tranny swap, NOS, T3/4 hybrid turbo intercooled, slammed, DVD with monitors in the interior, brembo system, AEM custom ECU. - 350Z with Plenum risers, full custom exhaust, pulleys, grounding kit, JWT intake, ECU upgrade. - Fully restored 1967 Ford Mustang 289 with Deluxe interior - Restored 1970 Chevelle
