Now, let's put the running boards aside and discuss what you will need to make your 4.4i look like 4.6is. If you want the 4.6is look, you will need to buy 4 flares for the rear (2 upper and 2 lower flares, one for each side). Let me know if you need the part #'s. If you want to have the 4.6is look AND the alum running boards, you will still need to buy 4 flares (2 upper and 2 lower), but the 2 upper flares are different from the upper flares for the regular 4.6is ones because they will need to be wide enough to fit the alum running boards. The flares that come with the running board kit will fit your 4.4i but they are not the wider flares that come standard on the 4.6is or 4.8is. I hope this clears up everything for you. If not, PM me and I'll try to explain in more detail. Last edited by IFlyX5; 04-26-2005 at 03:53 PM. |

Juan - thank you sir!
Peter - thanks for the comments and for that good explanation to Drew. I would still be scratching my head had you not have helped me out. |

They look fantastic! How much did they run you, if you don't mind me asking?

I will have to look at the receipts when I get home, but I want to say the alum running board kit was $560 and the extra rear flares were about $150 each, plus shipping. Check out some Internet dealers like Crevier, Pacific, etc., and take that pricing to your local dealer and see how close they can get. |

It is my understanding that you will not need any additional parts to install this kit on an unmodified X5 3.0 or 4.4. The 4.6 and 4.8 owners will have to buy the flares as will any X5 that has the 4.6/4.8 flares already.

Thank you both ifly and ncx and everyone else who responded. Ifly, I think you already provided me with the parts number on the flares itself for the 4.6. It was quite expensive almost $600 bucks for all 4 of them. Thats almost the cost of the running boards itself.
Hmmm...do you guys think that this will look bad on my car without the 4.6 flares. I mean I do plan on installing the 4.6 body kit. Is this going to be really obvious or should I get the parts and be done with it. Also, do you guys think that the flares that come with the running boards will be wide enough for my 20's? What I want to avoid is the tires exceeding past the flares. I would like to have that nice perfect tucked look that matches the flares width but not exceeding it. I have attached a picture of a 4.4 X5 with the running boards. Seems like this guy has no flares at all. Or does picture include the flares from the running boards?
