alum running boards on black X5

Finally got the running boards on and took a couple of pics. I could not wait to get them on, then once they were on I wasn't sure if I liked them with the black saphire. Now a week later I'm loving it. I still have the original F+R 4.6 flares, the new rear flares that came with the running board kit, and the original aluminum rails that are under the factory black covers.

Thanks to you guys that hooked me up with part numbers and tips.

the 'before picture is below.

NCX, I think they look awesome. Congrads on getting this. I am soon to ge mine on and have a question. I have 4.4i and will be installing the same running boards. The running boards come with the flares? Is it a one or 2 piece flare set up? From reading your post, I understand that you took off your 4.6 flares and replaced them with the flares that came with the running boards. I believe the 4.6 flares are 2 pieces. Can you just clairify exactly what you did.

I want to avoid buying 4.6 flares with my running boards. Since I am getting the 4.6kit front and rear aprons, and aluminum running boards than I really do not have to purchase the 4.6 flares in addition since I will be using the flares that come with the running boards....is this true?

No contest...before and aft pic. Much better with the RBs on especially against black sapphire.

Those running boards were made for you Sapphire Black X5! Looks perfect. I'm awaiting delivery of running boards for my Oxford Green X5. I got the running boards primarily for practical reasons (my wife is short and needs a step), but I wonder how my color scheme will work with the running boards. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

I think that would look killer on an Oxford Green X5. I can't say that I have seen it in person, but I can picture the bright aluminum with the green, I think it would look good.

Drew: Since you're getting the 4.6is front+rear spoilers, you have 2 choices: adding the 4.6is rear fender flares to make your 4.4i look just like a 4.6is, or not adding the fender flares so yours will be 4.4i with just the 4.6is spoilers.
Now, let's put the running boards aside and discuss what you will need to make your 4.4i look like 4.6is. If you want the 4.6is look, you will need to buy 4 flares for the rear (2 upper and 2 lower flares, one for each side). Let me know if you need the part #'s.
If you want to have the 4.6is look AND the alum running boards, you will still need to buy 4 flares (2 upper and 2 lower), but the 2 upper flares are different from the upper flares for the regular 4.6is ones because they will need to be wide enough to fit the alum running boards. The flares that come with the running board kit will fit your 4.4i but they are not the wider flares that come standard on the 4.6is or 4.8is.

I hope this clears up everything for you. If not, PM me and I'll try to explain in more detail.
