Calling all X5 dieselheads

Hi
Just what is the story with BMW's apparent "shame" at allowing the 3.0D's exhaust system to show at the rear as in the gas/petrol varients.
I have a fully loaded 3.0D sport ordered, expect delivery late July.
I'm coming from an Audi allroad 2.5TDI (diesel) which proudly sports both it's rear exhaust tips out the back.
Yet BMW have come up with the wierdest conveluted design of rear silencer to hide the rear exhaust.
WHY????
Anyone consider a retrofit to pop them out where they should have gone the first day, IMHO?

I think it's to prevent exhaust soot from shooting into the vehicle behind you? But I could be wrong, I've only seen one or two diesel Xs in real life.

yes, and i believe the rear bumper would get sooted up, as well. the bumper is higher and farther rearward than the exhaust pipe tips would be.

Didn't even think of that...imagine what an Alpine White could look like...

I have an Audi allroad 2.5 V6 diesel since 2003, 2 exhaust tips out the back, and not a grain of soot to be seen on the bodywork. Don't think the X5 diesel would perform different. Would the 4.6IS silencer/tips bolt straight onto the X5 3.0D rear pipes?

In addition, as I'm still waiting on a build date, hopefully June, delivery July, wouldn't it be nice if they could fit the 4.6IS silencers/tailpipes on my 3.0D at the factory in South Carolina. The dealer tells me BMW individual costs a bomb, even if they would allow such a mod

REMUS makes a 3.0d dual tip pipe so I assume it would work, or they wouldnt offer one. And to all U.S. based X5ers, this is a European Diesel, not GM Based diesel.

3.0d is da bomb

You cannot bolt on the 4.6is silencers/end pipes cause the 3.0D exhaust
system is different to the petrol variants as these have a middle resonator!
The 3.0D hasTurbo pipe to Kat and straight through to rear silencers!
Also, you oem end pipes point downwards not straight through!
You can purchase the oem 4.6is rear silencers with the quad oval tips(around
1160 euros) and adapt/weld them on at a professional welder. The advantages of this are that pipe diametre increases to 57mm(from 51mm)
and you have the "original look" as opposed to having a REMUS or Supersprint
engraved on your tips!!!!!!These however are also more expensive and are
not all made of stainless steel like the oem silencers!

Well, I'm having 4.4 mufflers installed next tuesday, so I'll let you know how it behaves . It does involve cutting and welding though, but the look will be so much better I don't think soot will be a problem. Mine is tuned to about 220hp and 500Nm (pre facelift model, so originally 184hp and 410Nm) and even in kickdown I can't notice any soot coming out.
