Has anyone bought the Bosch remanufactured Alternators?

I'm looking for feedback from anyone that has installed the Bosch reman. alternaters for a 2000 4.4. The dealer wants a good chunk of change for a new one. I'm not under warranty anymore so it will be all out of pocket. Also I plan on buying the V-belt, group of radiator hoses on front of the engine, and the alternator. Is there any BMW on-line stores that I could buy them from? My closest dealer is almost an hour away. I'm sure that I can't order parts over the phone. TIA Rob

Try doing a web search for "BMW Parts". There are plenty of on-line parts suppliers. As you are going to be taking everything off might be worth you while to replace your water pump and thermostat if it has more than 30K on it. Be a shame to have to take all those parts off again in a week or two to do it then.

Thats a water cooled alternator that has been on national Backorder from Bosch since December. I seriously doubt you will even find one outside the dealer.

You could try Bavarian Recycling. They may have a good one for you.

Just a thought. Alternators are always overhualable. I once had a British car. Wouldn't find a replacement alternator in a hurry. Ended up I took it apart, it was the rectifier(most likely)at one time and bearing at the other time causing the problem. Took it down to a local Starter/Alternator shop and they fix it up for me. (I actually change the rectifier myself)

While alternators can be overhauled, I would be hesitant to try it myself with a water-cooled Bosch alternator. There is a little more to it than the typical Joseph Lucas Prince of Darkness piece.

Any good local auto electrician should be able to do it for you and have the equipment to perform the task. I repaired a couple of Bosch alternators on earlier BMW models. The only real difference here is the water jacket.

Thanks guys I will call around monday to see if I can find one in stock online. If not I'll try a local alternator shop and see what they could do for me. Rob
