oppss... damn I thought everyone knew RR are pieces of shit. Well, at least every RR owner I have ever talked too says they hate them. Always broken and no fun to drive.

that sucks man, they are enjoyable cars but certainly don't compare to the X5. they have a great curb prescence but that's about it. good luck with whatever you end up doing.

A friend of mine has an LR3, wife loves it, two other friends have RR HSE's with the Beemer motor and I never hear complaints. The RR sits higher than the X...the LR3, the Sport, and the HSE have a LOT more cargo room. They will also leave an X5 behind in the woods. I went with the X because it's a bit nimbler, gets better mileage than the HSE, depreciates less, and is, well, not so middle aged (for a guy)....After the Touareg , there was no effin' way I was going to take a chance on a first year model.

I just went through this same thing. The wife wanted the X5 and I did too, but thought that she would want the E70 in a few months. Problem is we cannto wait that long. Anyway, I wanted her to take a long look at boht RRS and RR. I drove both and loved the comfort, but the drive was sloppy. I have one friend who has a RR who says it is a POS, but he doesn't care. He likes it and expects it to be in the shop. My brother in law has a RR that has never had any problems after 50k miles so it seems that in the sampling of 2 at least one is decent on reliability. Anyway after the test drives it was pretty clear to the wife which she wanted. Of coruse she is a BMW loyalist almost to a fault. Then again I am too as I am currently driving my first non BMW car in over 10 years.

I think they are two different cars really. If you want to compare RR to X, then compare the Sport model. The regular rover is meant to be a true SUV whereas the X5 and Sport model are more of a crossover car with SUV characteristics.

don't get me wrong guys the car has great points as well, none of which fall into performance categories. it does have stellar curb appleal especially with the new wheels and greater cabin room, but i just wish the car was made with a bit more torque and a bit more nimble. i will exchange it with the x7 as soon as it comes available.

I had an 03 Range Rover HSE, I really did not like it one bit. I even felt the new design looked much worse than the 02 range rover. They are not really a performance orientated vehicle for sure, but do have some off road capabilites and a decent amount of room. Mine was not terrible in terms of reliability but it did have some annoying miscellaneous problems that were all fixed under warranty. It was my wife's vehicle, but I just didn't like it at all. We ended up trading it on an Escalade as we wanted something larger to go skiing in and also something stronger to tow the boat.
