Paint Bumper?

I have an 02 4.4 X and have thought about the aero kit, but is it possible to just paint the current front/back black bumper? I'm not sure if the bumper material will hold paint well.

It's been done by many. See http://www.xoutpost.com/articles.php?...icle&artid=112 for one example.

In my opinion the paint won't hold up as well as the factory paint job, but if you find the right body shop that knows how to properly prepare the bumper material then you should be fine.

I have seen two people in my area with this done. It looks awesome. I thought it was the aero kit at first. One is Alpine white and the other is Toledo Blue. I can never stop them to talk to them. They are always going opposite directions.

any pics of the aero kit?

my dad's got a couple body shops and he's not really going for the idea for the fact that down the road, especially on the front bumper he said its gonna chip and look horrible.. but he said the sides and back will be fine.

What if you can get a clear bra for the painted front bumper? I have a clear bra on my hood and a few other places, but now I'm thinking that if I do paint my bumper, I may also want to put a clear bra on it to protect it from getting chips.

The one on my hood works wonders (good investment) as it has prevent plenty of paint chips. The only thing I'm pretty sure of though is that there's no kit for the front bumper. I guess one would have to be cut to order. Anyone have any experience with this? Price maybe?

I know a place outside of Boston that cuts the clear bra custom for every car. I too was thinking of painting my front bumper and thought that the clear bra would protect it. The shop is called Ultimate Detail in Weymouth and they quoted be 450 to do the whole front and mirrors if I had a body kit, painted bumper or stock since they always cut it to order. The owner cuts his with ghost flames in it and although that is not my style, it looks pretty cool. Good luck.

Most experienced places can do a custom clear bra. Prices will vary, but shop around and make sure you get a warranty and such.

i wonder if it would be cheaper to buy the parts prepainted of a 4.8 model from the dealer?

the words 'cheaper' and 'dealer' should never be used in the same sentence
