Can rain sensing be turned off??

I searched the archives but couldn't find anything on this. I can't stand the way the rain sensing "feature" completely takes over control of the wipers. I'd like to disable, but even my dealer couldn't figure out a way to do it without also turning off the automatic headlights. Apparently they're tied together.

I liken the erratic behavior of the wipers thinking they're smarter than the driver to the way Microsoft tries to amend the way a word is spelled because the software thinks it's smarter than the user (which unfortunately is often the case.)

the rain sensing mode is only activated when the control stalk is pushed up one notch.

every notch thereafter is 'manual'

"wipers on, lights on"

Why not put the wiper stalk in position 0 to turn it off (page 68 in manual)?

My issue is in the intermittent mode- i.e. up one notch. I've been on the highway wanting the wipers to sweep every few seconds, but they'll go from fast to every 5 seconds then back to fast. It's been irritating in the salty spray to have the wipers sweep too often and just smear the partially dry salt around. I know I can go up to low speed and override, but that's not the point. When I want a 2-3 second intermittent, I don't want it alternating between fast and nonexistant.

how i understand this is that you think the the preset speeds are faster than what you prefer, and in the auto mode, it's too unpredictable and erratic? if you want them to automatically turn on when it's raining but keep a preset speed, that's impossible. either way...when you turn on the car without turning off the auto wipers from the previous time, they're not going to work.

The daler can make the sensor less sencitive witch would make the sweep less often

This would be my advice - but if you disconnect the sensor - does it just follow the intermittent setting in position 1? if you do this let us know!

My dealer said he couldn't change or disconnect the rain sensing without interfering with the automatic headlights. Frankly, I don't care about auto lights since I turn them on and off myself. Guess I'm old school but I prefer to turn on my own lights, set my wiper settings, lock and unlock the doors myself etc.
