Question A/c Smells

Does anyone know the reason for a smell out of the A/C system? What do I need to get rid of it.

Thank you,

Depends what it smells like. The obvious first place to look is the filter, make sure it's a fresh charcoal one. If the smell is mold, the water condensation drain in your AC unit may be plugged causing excessive moisture and mold. With your AC on, on a humid day, there should be a puddle under the car once you've parked to indicate that the condenser is draining. Hope this helps.

You are experiencing a very, very common issue and complaint. There are a variety of suggested remedies. Some suggest turning off the a/c about a mile before you stop so that the moisture evaporates. It is believed that the condensation causes mildew and that is what causes the smell. Some have had some luck with their dealers using a Lysol product to spray into the system to kill the mildew. Somewhere out on the Internet is a dealer TSB on the issue. It is generally not covered under warranty.

Bingo, another good thing is to run it every now and again in cooler months to lubricate the system.

Maybe. But that didn't work for me. Both the X and the 5 stink.

it's condensation in the vents. Turn off AC about a mile away from your destination and no more smell..

yep! mine sure does stink! however, i have noticed, not so much this week. i think that's due to the fact the AC has been running every day though.

My stink is awful. Tried the Frigi-Fresh solution and it helped for about a day. Next time I'm at the stealer I'm gonna ask them if there's anything they can do. I'm somewhat glad to hear this isn't a common problem, is it a design flaw with the system?
