It depends on how your settings for the MP3, I tend to burn at the highest bit-rate, I have no problems with the sound quality. My speakers tend to give up before my ears.

If this is the case, I would recommend converting the Audio CD tracks to Apple's Lossless Compression format (AAC), the quality would be the same as CD.

I've got the dension kit in my car and I am a bit of a hi-fi nut, frankly in the confines of a car (especially on our wonderful roads!) you would be hard pressed to notice the difference between CD and mp3 (or AAC)

100% agree. The quality you hear through the BMW will be exactly what you would hear through the iPod's headphones.

sounds encouraging, especially from fellow Aussie who knows the roads (and the noise they can make!). I do actually already burn AAC onto the pod - so perhaps the Icelink is the go for me. I feel suitably convinced. thanks to all!
