Strange noise before shifting gear! Whats wrong?

I took my dad for a spin in my X today and had to show him how fast it is ;-)

But when I was accelerating on full throttle the car made a fast "punding" noise just before it shifted gear. Its not very loud but you can hear it.

Any ideas? Someone that have had the same problem?

yeah.....it was my tranny =x...replaced that unit for 6g's..good luck...btw...when you switch gears make sure ur at a full stop and dont let it roll into reverse from drive...i.e. when your parking or reversing....or you'll get the same torque converter clutch circuit malfunction i had =x

Check your flex disc first. Pounding in the drive shaft tunnel is a tell tail sigh of flex disc problems. Also check the drive shaft for shiny spots (about the size of a dime). If you find one it's likely you have thrown a weight and the drive shaft is out of balance. This will not only pound, but it will destroy the flex disk. I don't expect thats a transmission problem. Sounds more like drive line to me.
