Turning the crank with the drive belt off has no affect on the engine crank/cam position. It would be the same as if you broke the belt on the freeway, you would lose whatever the belt was driving (alternator, a/c etc) but the engine is not effected. Move the timing chain sprockets with the timing chain off and you are in for problems.
If you talking about the orientation of the tensioner pulley mount, then loosen the tensioner and install the belt, then tighten it up and you will be fine. The hole in the pulley is off center and you just put a wrench on the bolt and turn it to tension that pulley. If the hole is in the center of the pulley then all your belt tension is from the spring or hydraulic tensioner and you are also fine. kinda hard to explain, did I make sense? |
