25 days 3400 miles(so far)
Am PO'd at Morristown BMW, Ordered mudflaps, rear bumper protection, and window wind deflectors Tues 5/2, scheduled install for Fri 5/5. They called me Wed to get the VIN # to make sure they got the correct parts. So far, so good. Then Fri 8:00AM, I arrive only to be told they only have the mudflaps. I'm then told the missing parts are at the warehouse and they will go pick them up. Dumb me now forgets to ask them "How long?" I then fall asleep reading a book in the waiting area. 4.5 hrs later, I wake and ask how is my X5 doing. "The parts just got in." If I'd known it would take 4.5hrs to p/u parts, I would have rescheduled. Another 1.5hrs, it's all done. Then they charge me $220 labor!!! $146/hr labor rate???? I can't wait to get back to my own dealer in Idaho Falls. No wonder most of you DIY. Guess what I'm going to say when BMW calls for my rating. I will try to stay in touch. My laptop doesnot always p/u a wireless signal. Ridgefield,Conn this weekend. Atlanta & Charleston the following weekend. Jacksonville Memorial Day weekend. From there, who knows? I will miss seeing all of you at the DC meet. Definitely a future destination. Remember X5 + Hawaiian shirt + Idaho plates + BIG guy = ME! Wave as you go by!

I am sure the soft-close hatch can be retrofitted. Much easier than doing a NAV retrofit. Good luck in your travels.

You slept for 4 1/2 hours in the waiting area I think I saw you on 287 today. The drool coming down your chin and the creases in your face gave you away..Sorry... you opened the door for that one. Enjoy the X. Are all those destinations road trips?

I'll have you know, I have no creases in my face. I will admit to drooling from time to time. Freaky Friday is one. I-287? Yes. Picked up a friend in Bedminster to go golfing at Bunkerhill in Princeton. My father is in Watchung (I-78), my brother in Hillsborough (206) where I'm staying, and I'm often on 22. The other towns are on the itinerary for this trip. sister in CT - friend & BSW in Atlanta - sister in Charleston,SC - cousin's wedding at the TPC Sawgrass Mariott in the Jacksonville area. After all that, I then have to figure how I'm getting back to Idaho. I love being retired!!! But I have to admit that after a trip like this, I need downtime to catchup on my mail, my sleep, my $ reserves, and to do just nothing.

Idaho Falls (original name Eagle Rock) It was renamed after a small dam was built for the town's power plant. Off of I-15. Eagle is not familiar to me. I'll look it up later in the AM. You will probably notice a tightness in your chest and/or shortness of breath and/or afternoon tiredness within the first 3 weeks of moving to a much higher elevation. It takes awhile to adjust to the altitude on a regular basis. It's tough to compete with San Diego weather, but you will really enjoy the lack of so many people.

Anyway, Rexburg is where the Mormon church bought a junior college and has expanded it to a 4 yr college now called BYU-Idaho. Naturally, this has caused alot of new construction for housing and business. Maybe over saturation, not my area of expertice. There's been ALOT of new housing developements in Idaho Falls, but I'm also seeing new strip malls with only a few tenants. A clear sign of a real estate top. One of the biggest boons of Idaho Falls is everything is so close together. A week of travel to the bank, post office, doctor's, mall, shopping, movies, resturants, cleaner's, etc, you will travel less than 100 miles. In NJ and SC, I am usually driving over 100 miles a day. Good Luck on your move. Welcome to Idaho.
