Foreing Motors West - Not a positive experience

As I mentioned a couple of months before my X5 was running rough and I brought it in for Service to Forein Motors West(were i purchased it). They told me something was wrong with the engine, and tha they thought it was bent valves and probably going to be covered under warrranty but if it wasnt It was going to be aproximately 4K to fix. I told them Okay, 2 weeks later they call me and give me an estimate of $12,000 to fix, they told me the engine had major damage and it needed to be replaced. I asked them if there was any way it could be fixed, and they said no way, it needs a whole new engine. I went to pick up the car which they gave back to me after they diagnosed it with the engine in the trunk and charged me $1,500 in labor to diagnose it. I had to have the car sitting in my garage for about 6 months with the engine in the trunk, to give me sometime to get the $12,000. I decided last week that I was going to have my other dealer do the engine exchange (Herb Chambers which is where my family buys their cars). I have it towed in and give them all the paperwork for the diagnosis of the car. I get a call a couple oif days later from the Service Manager telling me that they went ahead and looked at the engine and that the damage to the engine was minimal not reflecting what Foreign Motors had diagnosed and that it just needed to have the valves replaced and somehting else(Im picking up the car Monday so Ill actually have the specifics). Now my car is ready and it was $4900 to fix at Herb Chambers but Im outraged at the incomptence Of Foreign Motors West and the fact that I didnt have a car for months while I was saving up the money to fix it, If when I took it in Originally to Forein Motors they would have told me $5,000 I would have fixed it right away, and the $1500 they charged me to diagnose it was completely wasted as the diagnosis was not accurate. What should I do from here, should I call custumer service? Should they refund me that $1500 for diagnosis? I just wanted to share how my story ended.

Try to give BMW NA a ring, explain your side of the story and see what they say. BTW was your X under warranty?
In regards of the $$, consider that a total loss, diagnostic charges are non-refundable.
Sorry to hear about that and glad your X is finally fixed.

I would call BMW NA for sure and explain the story, I'm shocked about that with FMWest.

If they misdiagnosed it I would expect a refund after I showed them what Herb Chambers did and informing them that I would be taking it up with BMW NA.
Phew. I almost bought my X5 there.
