How do you guys like the Sport pkg feel?

Was just wondering what your opinions were? Also do the sport packages have heavier/ harder steering? I noticed that my X5s steering is very firm and hard to turn compared to my other cars.

I really like the road feel on the highway. If you are doing city errands the wheel is a touch heavy. Seats are little hard after about 5 hours, and some folks feels the ride is stiff, but the handling is really good.

Yeah the handling is awesome. Real tight and reponsive which I like. Just seems like the steering is a bit heavy in the city.

love the sportpackage feel, I am glad I took the option...it is a little bumpy on bad roads....but I like the road contact feeling...and love the sport seats.

Just to provide a balance of various viewpoints....

I don't like the sport package. Uncomfortable, harsh, and unnecessary in this type of vehicle. Just my opinion, and relative to the X5. OTOH, I purchased the sport package on the Z4, and like it, as it suits that vehicle.

Maybe the X5 sports suspension is a little stiff, but the tradeoff between plush vs. responsiveness is worth it to me. After driving around for years in Bimmers with aftermarket suspension modifications, my butt tells me that the X5 rides quite nicely. If my mother in law could handle riding 750 miles in my X5 without complaining once, the ride must be liveable.

I don't find my X5 to be hard to turn although if you are used to the steering on a 330ci which is overly light to begin with, it may take a little time to get acclimated. I think the X5 has great steering responsiveness for a large vehicle.

Does it have to do with the 'Steertronic' option? I know my X5 is a bit hard in steering, but I test drove an '02 4.6 and i could steer that thing with one finger it was so easy.......I thought it might have to do with that 'Steertronic' thing...........I'm not sure on this, but that's what I was thinking it was.............

My requirements when buying a new vehicle were the following....

Had to be 4wd or AWD
Had to be faster than most of the stupid little rice cars on the road (anywhere around 14 sec. 1/4 mile and a decent pull to 110 makes me feel comfortable)
Had to have navigation
Had to be comfortable
Had to be able to tow
Had to be able to drive in the snow (needed a little ground clearance)
and the number one requirement...
HAD TO BE FUN TO DRIVE.

This TRUCK handles better than an american sports car, and the ride is not TOO harsh. The steering is tight, and the suspension is PERFECT. It's not so rough as to where you can't hit potholes and feel your back crushing, and it's perfect enough to swerve around the potholes at the last second without feeling like you are going to lose control or tip over. My 4.4 X5 with sports package seems a little harder to steer over a friends 3.0 X5 though.

Love it on the highway, but hate it on the bumpy, frost heaved-secondary roads found here in the high mountain west.
I have been a sport oriented BMW guy for over 20 years. When the chance came to purchase the X5 with "Sport", I did not give it a second's worth of thinking. I just said, of course.
I actually now wish I had left that option off the list.
