Titanium kidney grille for 00-03 X5s???

Just wondering if anyone painted their stock grilles using the DIY? And comments on doing it this way? Are your grilles lasting long and not paint chipping? I might be buying a set of stock kidney grilles to paint, but am not too sure if it will come out right? Should I go this route or should I buy pre painted Titanium kidney grilles? If so, where can I buy them and how much do they go for?

Thanks
Jay

I would recomend getting the OEM ones, that way you don't have to worry about the paint comming off them. I tried painting them and it just did not look right, my guess is that several coats of paint have to be applied in order for them to come out looking good. I spend about $50 or so for both of them and installed them myself, which was pretty easy. But if you want to go and try painting them GL.

If you use the correct Painting materials,I dont see any reason why you cant just paint as opposed to spending more money on an oem accessory!Have a look at this excellentr article.

If you decide to do it yourself, dont forget the most imprtant is the preparation and cleaning/sanding/degreasing of your grills before you paint them! Also ensure that the ambient temperature is over 15 degrees!

For a pre-facelift X, I would just buy 'em..They're all over the place for sale, and for cheap..The facelift ones are a different kettle of fish, however...
