Thumbs up New BMW owner, MERC enthusiast otherwise

Hello there,

Please welcome me t the BMW community. My first ever BMW. I always liked mercedes benz, and have been a Benz man, and also have a 190e 2.6 (excellent condition). Sold my S600 for a BMW SAV for the winter. And let me say, i am thrilled with this vehicle. Smooth transmission, excellent drive, no rattles, (except for the pop sound from the back, when i accelerate slowly, fixed it by tightening and adjusting the trunk bushes), and i absolutely love this vehicle. :thum bup:

Problems i have are:

Mirrors fold good but dont stay in the folded locked position, i press the buttong, they fold, come to folding point, and then go back to the open position. I dont know how to fix that, but advise would be great.

Centre console radio display is losing pixels. I dont know how to fix that either. There is no local radio service man in town who can do the job. There is a series of videos on youtube, but i am not confident to attempt this electronic repair. So maybe i'll let it be, or ask the dealership for a fix.

One key doesn't work on radio. I guess i have to get a new battery or a new key.

Ummmm What else?

I changed the engine oil, the antifreeze looks good, check engine light came on and i scanned a stuck open thermostat, i changed that. I replaced the air filter as well.

I need a cabin filter, new power steering filter and fluid, new transmission filter and fluid, new spark plugs and coils, and I love stock lights, but won't mind getting those LED circles in the lights.

Any other suggestions i should keep in mind before i attempt BMW repairs, or general maintenance. Please llet me know.

Thanks all.

Still figuring out how to upload photos.

2002 x5 4.6is

Hey Guys:

New Xoutpost member here...longtime BMWCCA member. I recently purchased a new to me, 2002 x5 4.6is. I searched for some time to find a super clean titanium silver with the black cloth interior combination. This particular 4.6 has a verified 30k miles on the odometer.

I would like to take a moment to personally thank everyone here in the community for all of the great insights and information which helped me immensely in my research.

I made my first (and likely only) mod which was to replace the steering wheel with an e46 m3 steering wheel with the tri-color stitch...a perfect compliment to the interior.

I thought I would share with all of you some pics I took recently.

One key doesn't work on radio. I guess i have to get a new battery or a new key. <- Do you mean that it doesn't lock/unlock the car? Did you try the initializing process? If that still doesn't work, you need new battery for it.

Power Steering: suck out and re-fill, no need for new filter. ATF: make sure to use the right fluid for your X. Drain and re-fill twice, ~1K miles apart.
Any other suggestions i should keep in mind before i attempt BMW repairs, or general maintenance. Please llet me know.

What version of the E53 X5 do you have? Hard to suggest anything without knowing what version and mileage. Get a Bentley Manual, very helpful for DIYers.

so jealous of your YOUNG and unmolested 4.6is, enjoy it in good health! looking forward to seeing you post up!

Would love to know where you found that clean 30k 4.6is, the cleanliness and mileage alone is worth every penny, and I looked at your pics, new DWS tires too! Not many things I'd get rid of my 5-speed for, but a low mileage pristine 4.6 is one of those examples!

Please share your story on finding your X, as I'm sure it is an interesting one...

Thanks

Thanks Ricky Bobby...It was definitely a long journey to find a silver/cloth combo with low mileage. There just aren't that many out there.

I actually found some black on black e53 4.8is's along the way with even lower mileage, but I just wasn't feeling the all black Darth Vadar look. I also prefer the pre "facelift" look of the 4.6 vs. the 4.8 as well.

Cheers!
