Oil Change

I now have over 11,000 miles on my 2005 X5 and the service indicator is still at three bars, does this mean that mean your miles go over 15,000 before an oil change is needed?

Yes I know you can get an oil change every year.

Have you had any oil changes yet? 11k with 3 bars doesn't sound right.

No oil change yet.

Had the dealer reprogram the trans an readjust the tailgate.

They wanted to charge for the oil change and it's leased so no oil change.

I have 17K and still have one bar. I had an oil change at 1 year. The bars are based on fule consumption. So if you do lots of highway driving you could still be at 3 bars.

WOW! Even though I get my oil changed by the dealer at 15K or every year, I still do an oil change at around 7.5K. In fact, I am due for one now which is perfect before the summer heat kicks in. I always heard even though the oil viscosity can go that distance, its the filter that breaks down.

I do it as extra preventive maintenance since I plan to own my X beyond 6yrs and want the the piece of mind.

This is why I don't buy lease returns...Worn main bearings and tired oil pumps are truly useless mods. You should get the oil changed whether it is leased or not...bring it to the dealer's attention that it's their car they are sludging up. You may have oil in the motor, but it's got to be tired by now.

I lease the car, and if BMW does not want to pay for the oil its not my problem. If I planed to keep it I would of changed it after the first 1,000 mi and every 7,500 after the first oil change.

So, why ask the question???

Maybe it's me, but the logic of the question and "responses" from
the orig. questioner makes no fookin sense.

It's a lease, so you and some people don't change oil: I have no beef with that, as it's your decision. But, why even care about the stupid freakin lights, with that attitude premise?

Oh now i'm surprised by this response. Sounds like someone lost the moral soapbox they have been standing on? Guess it's only worth standing on when it satisfies one's purpose huh?
