cmyX6go will become famous soon enough
I don't think I'm supposed to, but I do. It's a 25 year old habit. Always let the car idle for a few before driving off. I never turn the key and go, no matter what the season.

Not calling you stupid, but
I always let it warm up for at least one minute. In the winter, at least five minutes.

Doesn't the manual specifically say to just start it and go?

it does not need warm up - even in winter, with the proper oil, the engine warms up faster in motion than parked - again !!!

None of the cars (including BMW) made these days need warm-up. RTFM. Just drive and go, it heats the car sooner and you save on expensive gas.
