Question Can't find BT microphone wire in 2006 3.0i

I just installed the factory BT ULF module & antenna in my 2006, everything follows spec EXCEPT when I remove the map lights and mic cover in the overhead, there is supposed to be a three wire connector for the mic (84 31 6 938 762) but instead there is an eight wire that I assume is for assist. I took all of the controls out but there is no other wire that I can find - does anyone know if 2006 required an adapter for it? Or better yet, does anyone have a wire diagram of the 8 pin, I can just push the posts out and connect them to the mic...

On mine I had to take the headliner partially down and the wires I needed were located right in line with the center of the steering wheel. Keep looking, it's there.

I can't figure out how to take the headliner out - fount the two screws under the maplights but couldn't get the little plastic insert in the fron to pop out without damaging it (assume there is a screw in there too). I may have to actually <<shudder>> take it to the dealership for this last step - couldn't be more than 1/2 hour of labor cost...

It's been many years since I did this, but I seem to recall that I had to partially take down the sun visor.

I had the exact same issue with my 2005 X5. I knew exactly what I was looking for as I had already installed the kit in my 530. After hours of searching, I finally went to the dealership and explained the problem. They indicated that there would be a charge for it. There logic was that the wire was there, just not in the right place. My counter argument was, well if you sold me the car with only three wheels mounted and the 4th in the back seat, they would all be there just one in the wrong place. I wouldn't have to pay to mount the tire...right?

In the end they pulled the wire from under the headliner for free. I did buy the 2 cars in 9 months from them, that may have had something to do with it. Your X is brand new so you have some leverage. FYI. My dealership was a corporately owned retailer, I don't know if that plays a part in their decision.

my thought exactly last night when I was screaming at the console...the TIS and instal instructions agree the wire is not where it should be - they should have to fix it! Thanks for the info and advise.

thanks

wow- bscartlett nailed that one right on the head! I stuck a screw grabber up through the mike opening and just started grabbing aaround mid-driver's visor and had it fished out in five minutes - whole project complete in under 30 from start of ULF mount to the end (not counting last night's ranting and raving). You guys are a huge help to the little guys with no mechanics next door to assist!! Thanks so much
