Diesel Engine Oil Discolouration

As this is my first diesel car is it normal for the engine oil to become quite black very quickly after an oil change? When I originally bought it (second hand from a Dealer) I was told it had been fully serviced but noticed the oil was very black. Had a recent interim oil/filter change and the oil is very dark again.

go to dieselplace.com for answers

check out the above website and do a search, I have owned several diesel trucks, fords and chevys. They all blacken the oil quickly after an oil change. this is called sooting the oil. the better oils have whats called "soot control" which suspends it. a very good dino oil if thats what bmw requires in chevron delo. as far as synthetic i never ran it beacause it was too expensive. my belief with a diesel is to run a good dino oil and change it often. good luck. again all my trucks were new which allowed me to break them in... they still blacken the oil quickly.

Oil for diesel

You should be using a fully synthetic oil for the Beemer 6 cyl diesel. Most modern HDI dieslels require synthetic. You will also find that this type of oil wont go black so quick. I have 11000 miles on the clock and my oil still looks good. Synthetics also mean longer times between changes so the extra cost is to some extent off-set.

Nice to see the colonies finally catching on to the fuel of choice... more torque, more mpg and less carbon emmissions.
