Windshield replacement

Damn, got to replace the windshield, i called a few places, they all ask if the car has RAIN-SENSITIVE, which it does, but the price is about $100 w/o, its a feature that doesnt really get used much, is it worth the extra money..? any advise. im getting prices quoted of around $200, obviously not from the dealer.

Check your Insurance First...Might be Free, Also, taking away rain sensor is not an option, it will still be on the staulk and when you resell it.....$100 more won't kill ya.

i checked with insurance, $500 ded. and it is beyond a "crack-repair", about 20 inches and growing.

if it is a RAIN SENSITIVE windshield, it shouldnt matter that is not OEM, would it.?

As far as I know, ded. doesn't apply to glass - you should clarify this w/your ins. co.

Maybe his state does ot have the zero deductible windshield coverage? In FL, I had to wait until the chip grew large enough to be covered.

If you have glass coverage with your insurance co. then there should not be any ded. at least with Geico and the last 3 states I have resided. I always have glass coverage on all my cars and there is no deductible for glass coverage.

The no-ded only applies when the windshield can be "repaired", if it has to be replaced the ded applies. however, i had it replaced at a normal glass replacement place, the rain-sensitive windshield, installed and with tax for $150.00. Looks identical, rain sensors work fine, everything appears fine.

funny thing is, as i was waiting to pay, i looked over the counter, they had a bunch of invoices getting ready to be mailed, and they were addressed to local luxery dealers (BMW, LEXUS, MB, PORSHE), i asked the guy, and yeah, we you drop it off at the dealer, they go, do the replacement there, and the owner never knows any better..!!! ha.!

you should be careful of the aftermarket windshields, if they are not OEM and your X5 is leased then they may charge you for a substantail fee, also there is a chance after a few monts the rain sensor may delaminate(bubbles in the prisim section)causing the auto wipers or the auto headlamps to work erratically
