Rear window dropped

Happen to a friend of mines x5, the rear window appears to have slipped out of what was holding it and slammed into the bottom of the door. This recently happened on mine. What is causing this? its a 2000 3.0L. Is there a mfr. recall or is this something I should look at doing myself? I've redone windows on a lot of chevy's but never messed with the bimmer.

only 4.4s were made in 2000.

Sounds like its the window regulator. A very common problem, but dont ask me how to fix it, Thankfully mine was also under warrenty and i only had to pay $50.

rear window regulator is defective or maybe the clips thar retain the window may have broken, either way it is better to have it replaced by a dealer, the door panel has to be removed as well as the vapor barrier and if you have rear airbags it has to be disconnected which may set a fault.
