What's the little area under the reverse lights on '01 3.0?...Looks like a light..

On my '01 3.0, there's this little area under the reverse lights on each taillight and it looks like there should be a light in there; it's a little clearer than the rest of the taillight. Is that where the extra adaptive brake light is on the newer models? If so, then why does my '01 have it, was the adaptive brake light system on the '01s? Sorry if this question is very crazy...but I was just curious. Thanks for the help.

I think that whole area is just for show. No working lights, even on the newer models....

I believe those are there for the rear fog lights, if you have a euro-spec model ... unfortunately the US cars don't come equipped with rear fogs

If you want to spend a little time and about $20 you can turn them into running/brake lights as I did. Look at my "Article" for step by step instructions: http://www.xoutpost.com/articles/x5/l...ts-bmw-x5.html

withidl: Could you post pictures of what your modification looks like in action during the day and also at night?

Another individual has already posted pics of his X5 with this modification. Do a search and you'll probably find them.
