Normally the wiring is part of the hitch package.
If you don't have it you probally do need to get BMW parts. |

I have a factory hitch. most rental trailers use the rectangular/inline plug. your hitch has the round plug but you should have adapter that came with the hitch option.

Check in the spare area it is a small black plug.
It is not exclusive to BMW used the same adaptor on my Volvo. |

You can buy that adapter at any auto parts store - it is not a BMW exclusive adapter. Main thing is that you have the wiring installed to plug it into.
