Before i got my big sub, i tried differnt variations with the panel.... Having it completely off, having it cracked open a little bit, I really could not hear a difference either way. Its just too small and underpowered. At low volume i think it sounds great but when you turn it up it just cant keep up with the rest of the system. Rip the thing out and put a high quality 8 or 10inch in the back if your looking to upgrade. But try doing the grills, at least it will look good.

K, here goes.

This was a very easy project. Kinda a no-brainer but here it is step by step.

I originally was going to use two screens but then decided on one to keep the panel as strong as possible (not that is does much)

Original panel.

Step 1;

I had laid the grills on the carpet and turned them a bit to leave a mark on the carpet for a guide.

Step 2;

Pull off the insulation from the inside of the panel. Be carefull the tabs will break quite easily. I thought they were steel, but they are just plastic.

Step 3;

I then used a dremol tool to cut through the palstic. I also realised how thick this plastic is and how much sound is not getting out of the sub area. I cut on the inside of my mark. (you will have time for a trim later) Also watch the speed of the bit, it does catch and pull at the carpet a bit. I suggest playing in the middle of your cut-out to find the right speed that you are comfortable with.

Step 4;

Push the grill into the hole, the tighter the fit the better (sounds familular)
Anyway... trim what you need to but be carefull, once it's gone, it gone.

Step 5;

Bend over the grill screen to catch on the plastic. I bent over as much as I could to make sure of a snug fit. (ok that just did not sound good at all)

Step 6;

Cut a hole in the insulation as close as you can get it. I had just pushed hard on it and it made an imprint. I just did it free hand but you can also cut a piece of paper to match the grill and use it as a template. Re-install the insulation. (very easy to do)

That's it, your done !!!!

Here is what it looks like when you are done.
