Dsp Sub

I was thinking of how silly it is to have two subs that are under powered to begin with, covered with a panel. So here is what I am going to do. But, I want some advice on the grills first. Do you think these are ok, or should I get a set of gray ones. Or paint these to match? Mind you these are just sitting on top for right now, they would be flush mounted if i move forward.

Thanks for all + and - views.

I removed my panel the first day I got the car.

I love your idea. Please post pics if you do it.

I think it's a great idea,
I plan to do similar when I get the time.
For a sub woofer to be effective,
it's purpose in life is to move air.
If there is a panel in it's way,
it sort of defeats the purpose.
Do BMW not know this?
Maybe their brainy chaps from R & D
should read this forum from time to time.
Colour code them to the panel,
and this should be a great "functional" mod.
Can you personally audibly discern the difference between cover on/off?
One thing,
with such large holes cut,
you may have to reinforce the rear of the panel,
small aluminium angle should do the trick.

I removed my panel for a while and really didn't notice much difference at all, did you? Maybe I should try it again for a week and listen better...

I could hear a huge difference. My whole reasoning on the project. I am moving forward with these grills tonight. I will take pics along the way and post em when I am done.

I too have tried it without the cover. The bass sounds more hollow with less depth that way .

Well I am also building a new box to fit in there out of fiber with a 12" infinity so I will need the covers anyway, or I will blow the panel off
