Very good points...Obi, the more exclusive your car is, the better the selling power..For instance, Ive sold 95-97 LHD Dodge Rams over here for 2 1/2 times the KBB retail value, and they all had 5.9l V-8's in 'em...But they werent available here, and still arent..You will have more contact from Europe if you were to put it on the autotrader here...You would probably make a few bucks more, but perhaps not worth the hassle of dealing with it..

I agree. The hassle of dealing with shipping/tax/showing the car/going through the paperworks is bad. I think I'd rather sell it here locally and part out some of the stuff. Once we've come to a decision with the company, you'll see me selling parts here like 4.6 rear fender flares (didn't get a chance to install them yet), Dinan camber plates (new), titanium mirror trim (new), thule ski/snowboards roof racks (used for 3 days) and some 275/45/20 tires, etc. okay, enough of advertising.
If any of you guys are interested, please let me know. You guys have the first dip as you guys are great on helping me with relocation questions...I'm glad to hear the fruits/veggies are cheaper and better in UK. As I mentioned earlier, we often cook at home and only go out to eat on weekends. If groceries are still priced reasonably, then it's a good news. |

I shipped a truck from Canada to South America when we moved there, and it was no end of hassle. We ended up shipping it back to Canada to sell it eventually. I wouldn't even try to bring a vehicle to the UK, just not worth the hassle unless it is old enough to get special treatment.
Vegetables and fruit were great quality in the UK, but more expensive than North America. Put it in perspective; as part of your total spend, the price won't matter much. If you want non-genetically modified, vegetarian, or organic, we found better selection in the UK. Balance that against all the high-fat food that is found everywhere. Just try and find a hotel breakfast that isn't a 'full english' with bacon, sausage, blood pudding, fried eggs, fried bread, fried mushrooms, fried potatoes, and so on. You can go to Scotland and have the same thing for breakfast, plus haggis, and they call it a 'full Scottish'. Sky was great, the best part was watching F1 live on a Sunday afternoon and not having to get up in the middle of the night. TV is good quality broadcasting (more lines of definition), but limited programming selection if you don't get a dish. If you like English programming you generally dislike US programming. If you are accustomed to US channel selection you will wonder why there are only four or five channels (plus the digital ones). Service? I think I missed that. Sometimes, but in general, no. No matter what anyone says, it is expensive. We did the one to one CDN$ to GBP conversion all the time. Too bad it actually cost me 2.4 $ to the pound at the time. We used some savings from the previous assignment to keep our lifestyle up for the three years we were in the UK, but we would still do it again. There are incredible old buildings, sights like Ironbridge and Stonehenge, small towns, and so on. We went out touring two weekends a month usually. Edinburgh was a favourite, as well as any castle. Don't miss Goodwood's two festivals. You are also very close to the rest of Europe; we went to Spain several times, Italy three times, France once, Germany, and Switzerland several times. If you do it, do it because you have an open mind and want to experience it. Don't expect it to be like home. The world's a big place, it is good to see more of it. Just my $0.02

JCL, I agree with you. I don't expect it to be like home. My wife and I are pretty flexible in adapting to new environments. The new experience will be tremendous and hopefully assets to our future. We grew up in Hong Kong and came to US to study and work. We have lived in two different worlds before. We are very excited about the opportunity to travel around Europe like you did, Spain, Italy, France, etc...It can't get any better than this.
