X pipe or straight pipes ?????
I was thinking on buying the Remus exhaust, but before that, I wanted to try the X Pipe or straight pipes, maybe this mod will be enought to get a powerful sound, what do you think? J.Seven |

hmmm....this ought to produce some interesting repsonses. I personally had the straight pipes, the exhaust was louder but had a bit of raspiness under hard acceleration. I've heard that the x-pipe reduces this. In the end, I ended up getting a custom exhaust comprising of a flowmaster muffler and magnaflow tips, that was probably the best sounding combination, sounded like an American musclecar V8. Here's part of the thread:
Not much louder at all, but sounds better, the raspiness that was there under acceleration and revving is gone. Just a nice deep rumble. My exhaust is: from engine to cats, to muffler, out the back...... Muffler: Flowmaster 50 series dual inlet/outlet (524554). Info on Summit Racing website NOTE on the mufflers, the OEM ones are HEAVY! Tips: Magnaflow (35167) Info on Magnaflows website Parts and install put me right around $500. I'll get pics and sound clips up as soon as I can. Here's the full thread: (the first part is OK, the second half of the thread went downhill )http://www.xoutpost.com/x5-e53-forum/...hlight=exhaust

I agree with Eric. I originally had the straight pipes on with the stock mufflers and it definitely sounded louder but got raspier with higher revs...
I then went for the magnaflow x-pipe and it wasn't as loud and got rid of the raspiness under acceleration. I now have the x-pipe combined with a supersprint exhaust and couldn't be happier... just love the V8 rumble...

Did you ever post any pics or sound clips from your installation, Eric? If so, I might have missed them... Can't remember... burrning too many braincells up at work. |

I just replaced the stock centre muffler with a couple of stainless steel "cherry bomb" mufflers. No X pipe. Sounds great compared with stock with no resonance issues when at highway speeds.
Only a little louder than stock but alot deeper and more "rumbly" if such a word exists!

Please excuse the appearance, my site was moved to a new server and everything got fk'd up and I haven't had a chance to fix it yet. http://www.ekaz.net/X5.htm
