I had an '02 4.4i non-sport and I thought it handled just fine without the sport package... So in terms of handling, I don't think it's a necessity but it has other cool aspects.

clear lights? The sport pkg doen't mention clear light, I also sought that sport and non sport had the same size wheels, unless you order the 19"s as an extra? (4.4 U.S. model)

do the '05 non sport package x's have chrome window edging too? you might want to check into that as well if you don't like the chrome.

I actualy don't mind the chrome window edging, i think it define the design of the car better, especially on dark colors.
