The software that controls the air-suspension is quite sensitive so it's not a good idea to mess around with it. Best solutions involve a module to piggy-back on the module and alter the input signals (for the ride height), or mechanically re-mount the ride height sensors to send false signals to the existing control module.

HI,
thanks for your information. The mechanic solution is for me not the best solution - to much mechanic work. But the piggy-back solutions could be fine - have you such a modul? Or where could I buy such a modul? Thorsten |

Thorsten, the only software module that I am aware of was available from Thorney Motorsport (a large BMW tuner based in England). John Thorne used to have the module fitted to his own 4.8is, which I drove, then he made it available for sale. I believe you can get one if you contact him direct.
Here is the web page with his details: http://www.x5.org.uk/index.php?cPath=55 Since I have had some problems with the function of my air suspension on a previous X5, I was more interested in the mechanical option. It was developed by a member here on X5world but he hasn't productionised it yet (and perhaps will not), but I don't know why. Here is the thread which includes contributions from Rboosted717 which shows pictures of his lowering kit in action: http://www.xoutpost.com/x5-e53-forum/...owering-2.html

forget the THORNEY MOTORSPORT option.. i have tried contacting him numerous times about the module and it was either "in the works" or i would simply not get any reply
The option i went with was; 1-going to the dealer and having them adjust the air suspension a bit lower then stock.. 2-buyin the intrax module for the 4.8is air suspension. That simply taps into the wires for the air suspension, behind the glove box. Then after installing this module, you can drive in the lowest and or the highest setting without the ride height changing after 25mph. THE lowest setting on my x5 4.8 leaves around 1 1/2finger length in the front and 3finger lenghts in the front AND YES I CAN DRIVE WITH THIS SETTING DUE TO THE INTRAX MODULE

@imola4.8isWA
But I have a 3.0D - is the intrax module possible too? Where could I buy the intrax module and what is the price for the module? Have you some pictures from your X5 with the lowest settings? Thorsten |

I am also interested in lowering my 4.8 but would it rub the fenders when you drive though? how did you get the dealer to lower your 4.8? many would just refuse to do it ... thanks! -Paul

I've tried to contact intrax to sell just the lowering module, it doesn't seem like they're willing to sell it as a standalone.
