Resetting oil service light

Ok I am lost here. I found this on the main page...

http://www.xoutpost.com/articles/x5/e...ts-bmw-x5.html

So if you look at this pic, which shows u the pins to short out...

then this picture

They are not the same pin setup. Or am I just losing it? lol

Look where the two odd pins are on the other side of the open mouth of "so called" pack man. On 1 pic they r to the right and the other to the left.

Does anyone follow what I am getting at?

Not sure but if these are two different X's there are two different setups.

I am just guessing that the pic with the pins pointed out is not an X5 dues only to the body colour change.

OK... let me know if I am crazy and just a little tired.

TIA

The pins 19 and 7 are on both sockets, the first picture is probably an OBD l socket (87-95) the second one is probably OBD ll.

I see that they are the same, you need to print out the reference one and rotate it to the same position of your in the car, that's how you figure out the pin position.

Use the notches on the connector to orientate the pins.

Well some pins are the same. But these two pictures do not have the same layout.

Here they are at the same angle

So It does look like the 2 pins (17 - 9) are int the same location, I was just concerned that 17 and 9 ARE the same location, as the pictures do differ. Might just be confusing to show two different layouts on the same "how to" page. I know I don't want to go jumping wires until I am 100% sure I am jumping the right pins.

Bingo!! Use the Pacman to orient yourself. I've done this many times with no issue.

I see what you mean. Others have had the same problem. All you need to worry about is pin 7 which is the reset line. Pin 19 is just ground so you can use the body ground post if you want. Rig up a wire to a paper clip and ground the other end of the wire.
