How easy is it to install CD changer?

I am planning to buy a CD changer for my X. Do you guys know if i have to cut carpet to run wires through, or just hook it up some where in the back compartment? I don't know to mess up the X just to get the CD changer installed. Thanks for any input.

plug and play pretty much. 1/2 beer job. But one question is why? most people don't even use CD's anymore.

very easy plug-n-play install, but I'd go with the Dension IceLink Plus and an iPod, personally.

Here's some tips on the CD Changer install - http://www.xoutpost.com/articles/x5/s...er-bmw-x5.html

Very easy install. But unless you are all set on the cd changer, go with the ipod setup.

Yeah the CD changer is very simple. I still listen to CD's but mainly my iPOD.

Do yourself a favor and go the iPod/DICE route. For the CD Changer pricing (dealer item at approx $650), you can have a system for half that price including the iPod.

DICE iPod Integration Kit for BMW
http://www.europeanautosource.com/pr...roducts_id=268

The DICE gives the following features:

- ID3 text on the MID/OBC or NAV screen
- Steering wheel control of your entire iPod
- Access to your entire music library via your radio or steering wheel buttons
- Anyone's iPod can be used in the vehicle - no special software needed

The DICE and a 1G nano will give you a 250 song capacity and keep you right at around $300.

I have both ('01, 6CD - '06, IceLink+iPod) - If you are just starting out, go with the IceLink+iPod - If $ is a factor, you can probably p/u a 6CD on 'ebay' - the 6CD is a simple install (don't forget to get the mounting brackets)(it's just an Alpine unit with a BMW nameplate) - The IceLink requires more time, effort, and knowledge than I have, so I had it included with the BSW speaker upgrade

I can understand the need for a CD changer - it's been 2 years since I started ripping my CD collection, I still have 150 or so CD's left to rip, and I've already filled one 250GB hard drive. It's a pain in the ass to do.
