plug and play pretty much. 1/2 beer job. But one question is why? most people don't even use CD's anymore.

very easy plug-n-play install, but I'd go with the Dension IceLink Plus and an iPod, personally. Here's some tips on the CD Changer install - http://www.xoutpost.com/articles/x5/s...er-bmw-x5.html

Very easy install. But unless you are all set on the cd changer, go with the ipod setup.

Yeah the CD changer is very simple. I still listen to CD's but mainly my iPOD.

I have both ('01, 6CD - '06, IceLink+iPod) - If you are just starting out, go with the IceLink+iPod - If $ is a factor, you can probably p/u a 6CD on 'ebay' - the 6CD is a simple install (don't forget to get the mounting brackets)(it's just an Alpine unit with a BMW nameplate) - The IceLink requires more time, effort, and knowledge than I have, so I had it included with the BSW speaker upgrade

I can understand the need for a CD changer - it's been 2 years since I started ripping my CD collection, I still have 150 or so CD's left to rip, and I've already filled one 250GB hard drive. It's a pain in the ass to do.
