Installing a CarPC into my X

Alright guys, after a bit of research and not having the time to actually do this, I finally figured out exactly what I need/want to do this:

Here is what I wanted in the system
- keep the original radio
- replace the business cd player with a fabricated lcd (slides in and out and tilts)
- keep the whole installation hidden, meaning i wanted the wood trim to be all that was viewed when the lcd was closed
- be able to use bluetooth via my computer
- use the steering wheel for control over the car
- be able to tap into the bmw radio via both ibus and aux input

The progress:
I have purchased the lcd that i need for this and i started making the case for it to fit.

I ran across a problem, when i remove the bmw business cd, i saw that i also lose the aux input. is there a way to solve this? I just dont want the cd player, but i still want the upfront aux
- if i just unplug the cd player but keep the cables attached, will the aux still show up on the radio?

second question i had, i want to mount the carpc in the trunk. i was told that i could use the cd changer adapter back there to convert it into an aux input and a ibus output (to the computer) - has anyone investigated this/done anything with this?

if i can figure out these two problems, i think i can progress pretty far, these are the only limitations that i found thus far. I will keep you guys posted. I will post pictures/specs on the computer once its been all hashed out.

Any help/advice from you guys would be awesome.

Sorry I don't have any input for you. But that sounds very involved, yet very exciting! Seems like it's going to be very cool. Keep us updated

yea, in addition to that aux, i believe you can tap into the cd changer's steering wheel controls via the ibus adapter.

im still trying to figiure out the front aux that comes off the business cd and whether or not it will work if the business cd is taken out

I don't know about the front aux input as I have an '01 X5. I installed a CarPC into the X and used the Blitzsafe adapter for the input. You could possibly run an extension input into the CarPC so that you have control from the PC.

My pc was an Epia Via M10000 with 512MB ram and 80GB laptop drive. I used a 90W Opus power supply and a 7" Xenarc Touchscreen. It featured an XMpcr, GPS Navigation, and the usual goodies associated with a CarPC.

A good website to checkout is MP3CAR.com, that's if you haven't already.

If you have any questions I am very happy to help. Good luck with the (neverending) project!

I don't see why removing the CD player why you would loose the Aux input.
Does the AUX option disappear completely or is it greyed out?
This link shows the radio pin out:

http://www.xoutpost.com/showthread.php?t=9527

As you can see, the radio only has audio inputs from the CD.
However, the iBus may be the area that is causing problems?

wait, question for clarification, does the business cd also have components for the radio?? - it seems that it may control the FM as it has the antenna on the business cd, not the radio module.

also - the reason i said i lost the front auxiliary is that when i remove the business cd - there is no where to plug the black plug that you gave me the link to. therefore the aux would be connected to the nothing as the 16 pin connector would be connected to nothing.

any help?
