Bummer on getting my cluster fixed

After doing the cleaning of the cluster to get my pixels back I gave up and emailed Leonora. She forwarded it off to BMW Canada and here is what I got back

Dear Mr. ____

Your original email sent to Leonora at BMW North America has been forwarded to BMW Canada to respond. I appreciate the opportunity to review your feedback and respond on behalf of BMW Canada.

We are sorry to learn that your ownership experience has not been without incident. It has always been BMW’s objective to provide durable and reliable vehicles, which will require a minimum of service and not only meet, but exceed our customers’ expectations.

We would like to take this opportunity to confirm that BMW Canada has not followed BMW North America’s position to offer post-warranty financial assistance to repair MID units in BMW vehicles. When a concern arises following the expiration of the New Vehicle Limited Warranty, BMW Canada evaluates each situation on a case by case basis. We have reviewed your concern and due to the age of your 2001 BMW X5 3.0i, it is outside the period of consideration for assistance.

Mr. ____, you are a valued BMW customer and we trust you will understand that the warranty guidelines offered on new vehicles must be applied consistently for all our customers.

Sincerely yours,

Stephanie Roy-Lavallee
Customer Service Coordinator
BMW Canada

I have the same problem with my 2001 540i. I basically got the same response from BMW Canada. They claimed that the vehicles are built to different specifications than their counterpart U.S. vehicles, and so they will not offer warranty repair. That's bull crap as far as I'm concerned. Yes one cluster is in km/hr and the other is in miles/hr but they are literally the same. BMW Canada is basically taking the easy way out. The prices they set for parts here are redicilous too. I get everything from the U.S. and save money even after paying for shipping, duty and taxes.

With the Canadian dollar almost on par with the U.S. dollar, why is there like a 20 grand difference in price when buying the same car here vs down south???

Did you try doing it yourself with the contact cleaner? I will try to do it myself.
I actually took out the whole cluster unit today without unplugging anything and without opening the cluster itself as described in the diy on the home page, I wonder if anyone has tried to do it without opening it and just stick the little plastic tube supplied with the spray can in there and spray everywhere, has anyone done that?
And btw I emailed Leonora and she never got back to me but I did call my local stealer and they told me that they will only charge for the labor, about 1 to 1 1/2 they said.

Yes I did try to fix it twice. Both times it came back (not to 100%) and then back to lost pixels.

No reply from BMW yet.

Call them, They only approve depend on the miles and the years of your vehicle. I called BMWNA, they approve to fix the cluster pixels but not lablor cost. I ended call my warranty company to cover 3 items: Side mirror motor, cluster pixles and passenger door lock, it cost me $100.00 deductible. The steeler tried to rip off my stereo display from the warrant by replace the whole stereo for $1100.00 which never approved by the warranty. I ended up in the middle with f*ckup stereo display.

Now, the dealer just replaced for free after I made complaints about to many got damn thing wrong with the car after 2 weeks they had them. Side mirror's hoursing never pops back. I was driving around with dirty car and broken mirror after 2 weeks got back from dealer and they even called me named after I pay cashed for the repairs.

I just got a new display on my stereo from dealer. I see like a new panel, even the buttons are news. They look sharp. cheers
