Is it really true? do I have to replace the ....

Need your help please. The brake light finally came on and and while I'm set on the Axxis pads choice for pads replacement, I'm not sure about the following and need your input:
1. I hear I have to replace the rotors? but if they are in spec (over 10.5mm), do I still have to?
2. If I need the rotors, can someone point to a site to buy just std Brembo non-drilled or slotted rotors that are spec'ed for the X5?
3. Or do they sell Axxis pads, rotors, and the sensors in one package somewhere? I saw this on ebay but with Mintex pads!!

If you get Axxis, recommend the Deluxe, which are the low dust version.

1) You don't necessarily need to replace the rotor, but more times than not, the rotors have worn down at the same rate as the pads. If you don't replace them, you may find that they are undersize before you wear the new pads out. Just do them and be done with it.

2) Lots of Brembo (real and fake) on the web. I went with aftermarket (think they were Raybestos) rotors on the front, and BMW OEM on the rear (dealer price was virtually the same on the rear). I haven't used them, but I would look at the Centric rotors that Dave has on his site. Decent price. The comments about surface finish in the product description are accurate. Board sponsor, and a great company to deal with. http://www.zeckhausen.com/

3) See the link above. Zeckhausen can sell you the rotors and Axxis pads. Get the sensors at the dealership, they aren't expensive.

how many miles do you have on your car?

you only need to replace your rotor if it is warp. Some people say you have to resurface your rotor everytime you change your brake pads, but you really don't if your rotor is still straight and thick. I only change my brake pads (Axxis metal master). The cheapest I found is in the following link

You might want to do your front and rear. I did due to OEM brake dust. Now I don't have to clean my rims as often.

You should not resurface or turn the rotors on the X5. It's not recommended.

your so call brembo's are sometimes fakes and we've seen people drill the blanks themselves an sell them as Brembo x-drilled rotors. The only brembo worth getting are the floating rotors as in the GT and Leman's setup. There is really no advantage to those vs stock.

As for replacement rotors, just get some blanks either from your dealer or a reputable source like Zeckhausen like Jeff pointed out.

Go to Zeckhausen's site, and look at the detailed pictures of the Centric rotors. That is what you are looking for, fully machined, balanced, double ground finish, etc, no matter who makes them.

I have 46K mi on the X Ken. I am not and will not machine rotors. I thought I'd have an advantage getting the package deal as in the ebaylink in my post and the rotors would be better than stock since they claim they are brembos, but not sure if these are real.

How much are the stock rotors anyway?
