I hope I saved your car from theft (Hoboken, NJ)

On my way to work this morning, I was driving through Hoboken, NJ (after dropping off my wife at the Hoboken ferry) and I saw a black X5 3.0 parked on the sidewalk at the corner of Marin and Eighteenth Street. I noticed it for 2 reasons.. 1) It has the 20" style 87s (same ones I'll have on in a few days) and 2) there were 2 guys lurking around the car, looking through the windows and acting very suspiciously. Since I was late for a meeting, I didn't have time to stop however I did call Hoboken police and mentioned a possible vehicle theft attempt...

Hopefully I saved someone's car from theft..

Boy, have you high hopes for police action, especially NJ police! - They are only there to write it up after it happens - police actually trying to prevent crime?! What a novel idea! - What do you bet that X is in a container being loaded on a ship? (or stripped)

You better have a back up key. Otherwise your in deep dodo no doubt. And yes there is no way to open it without causing damage.

Yes I did lock my keys in the rear hatch area but the CEO bailed me out with her key.

Back up key: take your plastic key, wrap it in Saran Wrap,
tuck it in one of those magnetic key box gizmos, find a
nice horizontal, upper surface under the car about a long
arm's reach in: attach the lil'box. Remember where it is.

Mine's been tucked up & under almost 5 years. I look at
it once a year: crusty, rusty, corroded key box, but the
key inside still works fine.

The punqueazz car thieves could find the missing Area 51
saucer guys before they stumbled upon the box...course,
they could steal the fookin car, too.

But, knowing the key-in-the-box is there, is a slight
comfort in this nearly chaotic world.
