The tank got running boards (PICTURES)...

First of all, thanks to everyone for input on parts needed and install process.. I'd like to point out that

a) It wasn't necessary to lift the car - There is plenty of room to remove the old rivets and install new ones.. even under the car.. I recommend using an old rug to lie down to do this

b) It wasn't necessary to remove the rear wheel - There is enough room to remove the old rivets and just as much to install news ones.. below is the reason why

c) It wasn't necessary to use the rivet gun - What you need to do is push the rivet in, then take 2 pliers. With one pliers, hold the rivet flush to the wheel arch by letting the plastic piece through the large hole in the middle of the pliers.. with the other pliers, grab on to the plastic and twist it away while pushing against the other pliers.. That took about 10 seconds per rivet..

Pictures below.. I do miss the front mud flaps (new ones will arrive in a few days).. the car is getting dirty..

Are the mudflaps the same ones we get here in Oz? The ones on my X5 always seem to come loose where the plastic lug inserts into the top along the running board.

Oh - I love the Sterling Grey !!

Looks great, huh? And they reflect into the lower part of the doors, adds something...b/t/w I used a brush and Ceramabrite (used for cleaning glass cooktops) to clean my RBs today...worked great.

I guess they are, but I've never had the problem you're describing.. However, I've never had running boards before and so the new front mud flaps are yet to be installed (in a few days) so we'll see.
