To build a circuit shouldnt be too much of a problem.

As you say, using the lock/unlock wire from the alarm then into a relay then to the mirror lift switch.Have a look on http://www.the12volt.com/relays/page1.asp

Would be nice if the key could be progammed to do this but I cant see it as an option on the dealer car key programming sheet.

I was JUST wondering about this feature this morning. I have a somewhat narrow garage and the fold feature would help ensure the mirrors not getting scraped up.

Do US spec '04 4.8is come with it standard? If not, how much does the retrofit kit cost?

lowell- the 'follow me home' light is when the headlights stays on after youve locked the car, I beleive for 60 seconds but someone correct me if im wrong on the duration. This is so you can see where you are going in a poorly lit area (ie sidewalk, driveway, etc).

All X5s had it standard or available (not sure) starting MY 2003. There should be a button next to the switch that changes which side mirror you adjust.

You could wire them to the Parking brake or shifter so they fold once device is engaged?

I think the follow me home lights stay on for 30 sec so you can see the pathway ahead of the car. If im wrong correct me.
