Auto Folding Mirrors On Lock Option

Can the key be programmed to auto fold the door mirrors back when locking the car? Can't seem to find this info anywhere?

I'm not sure which models specifically, but there is a power folding option for the side mirrors on the X5. I had it on my 4.8, as for programming through the key to fold when locking, I don't think it is possible.

Not on older X5, but it is available on the newer X5s. Don't remember which option/package it is. But you can also retrofit it, see article.

Auto-fold-on-lock is not a key-config option. The weak auto-fold motors will probably break in 2 or so months if they do that. But I have seen on MBs.

I have 2003 3.0D X5 WITH electric folding mirrors, use them all the time. Dont think you can have them programmed to work with key though.

You can have them folding in on the key! My dealer offered this to me when they turned on the follow me home lights.

i have a 03 and my mirrors fold. i asked the dealer about the auto-fold on lock and he said that i couldn't do it. i'm not sure if he was correct or not and never investigated further. but, you you find a way to do it, i'd be most interested.

Thanks for all the responses. Sorry for any confusion but yes I already have the power folding exterior mirrors fitted as a factory option. But would really like to have them fold away when I park the vehicle and lock the doors as an automatic function. I can do it now by manually pushing the auto fold button when parked but often forget!!

X5 sport you have this option you have had it done on your X5 please pm me on here or on www.x5drivers.co.uk - thanks

Richard

I know on the E46 M3s the US spec cars did not have such a feature and people have been able to build their own circuts that support the feature, they use the arm/disarm signal out of the alarm I believe, the rest I do not know but I would think you would need to build a circut with timer or current sensing to protect the motors of the folding mirrors, etc.

To build a circuit shouldnt be too much of a problem.

As you say, using the lock/unlock wire from the alarm then into a relay then to the mirror lift switch.Have a look on http://www.the12volt.com/relays/page1.asp

Would be nice if the key could be progammed to do this but I cant see it as an option on the dealer car key programming sheet.
