BMW X5 does NOT stand for Quality
However the quality of some the components (window regulators, battery, electrical components, coolant leaks) used in this car are lacking the BMW luxury standard. Since the warranty expired I have been to the BMW service more than 6 times (in within 3week timeframe). It literally seems that the car (price tag $55k) is designed to fall apart at the end of the warranty period (mileage 56k). What is worse is that BMW North America does not care. The latter actually made me decide to get rid of my BMWs and switch to another Brand which cares about their customers.

Welcome to The Board...
If you have done any reading of historical threads and the near encyclopedic front page, you will notice your observations are not new or, just "you". It has its glitches, but it is a helluva beast! Good, first rant there, too! GL,mD Edit: re: "What is worse is that BMW North America does not care. The latter actually made me decide to get rid of my BMWs and switch to another Brand which cares about their customers, (sic)" So, you have sold your X and your 325?

Sorry to hear that, but thats TOTALLY TRUE. I bought my 2003 4Runner brand new, its been 3 years and have not taken it in for repair once. Nothing wrong with it, nada, except for oil change of course. Brake, engine, windows, eletrical, lights, everything works perfectly. While my X5 after 4 months of ownership, i have to take it in twice, one for light socket corrosion they ask $260, one for windows regulator $430. and the driver side lock doesnt unlock either. Well, if I can afford the luxury of the BMW X5 (at least the name) than I don't bother complaining. Well, my V8 4runner runs smoother than my X5, if you ask. But i like the X because its the BMW X5 not Toyota. Can you believe this, in 2 days that i drove both the X and the 4Runner to work, the same man at the entrance react different. One is "Good morning Sir" and the other is "Whats up buddy?" You should know what sentence belong to which situation. Good luck with your X.

I'm sorry to hear about the problems you are having with your X5. Unfortunately it's been my experience that once your factory warranty expires with any vehicle, the dealerships give you a hard time no matter what make it is. I had a similar problem with my last Toyota, the dealer acted like I was bothering them with defects that weren't covered anymore since my warranty had just expired........
I do agree that there are things on every car that should last longer than the life of the vehicle. Unfortunately it seems that's not the case for BMW. I guess there is a reason most people lease them. I'll be looking into the extended warranty for my BMW once the factory warranty starts to near it's end if I decide to keep it past the warranty. Good luck with your next purchase, hope you have better luck. Quote:

This 02 X, not a problem yet (31k miles). MY landcruiser (96): heater core busted after 20k. Radiator busted after 30k. Check engine lite is on right now (yes, for 4 yrs) and we dont know why; Ijust tuned it up at a cost of over 4 hundred $. Sometimes the lil demons get in a few cars and thats just the way it is. I love 'Claus' and 'Crusher' for what they do: ones a blaster on the highway, the other is not a poseur off road.
