Inspection I or II or Oil Change at 61k ?

I bought it when its 54K, I have never taken it for Inspection I or II or Oil change. OK, now its hit 61K miles and the light has hit RED. Which service should be done? and Can I change OIL at Juffy Lube?

Assuming that your X has been maintained following the BMW service schedule it is now due for inspection 2. The BMW inspections are pretty expensive but they may save you thousand dollars in the long run. You certainely do not want to get the oil changed at Jiffy Lube for the X or any other car IMO.

Do your own oil change. It's quick, it's easy, you know the job is done right and you'll save enough on the cost to pay for two or three Mobil 1/BMW filter changes! Plus you can bond with your X.

Get your filters at your dealership (around $8 ea) and your Mobil 1 at WalMart in the 5qt jug (around $21/jug plus a couple qt jugs to get you up to the 8qt crankcase capacity). Or use your BMWCCA discount (you DO have a CCA membership, right?) to get the Castrol/BMW oil at the dealer. Check out the procedure on X5World.

Do not use the JiffyLube/QuickLube outlets. Too many horror stories.

IMO inspection l and ll are a complete waste of money, they do absolutely nothing to your vehicle other than look at it to try to find something they can convince you to fix at an even higher price that the already outrageous cost of the inspection. Owners know when there is a problem and most systems are monitored by SES/OBDll. Get fluids changed regularly and avoid the inspection l and ll. Take your wife on a mini vacation if you feel the need to blow 600-1000 bucks, at least you will have fun doing that.

Pick up the phone and call them...

I'm with the majority posted above: skip InspII at a stlr.
If you are compulsed to do it, hit an Indie for 1/3 less.

Jiffy Lube, et al...I'm not quite as down on them as the
rest here: I've had my Vette done there 4 times as it's a
bear to get up and under. I watch them like a hawk and
they use the filter I bring in...

most JL's are not gonna have the filter for your X or, it
will be a pos no brand. And, you may have to walk them
through it, eg : open filter canister first for draining,
carefully wipe the oil plug area, etc. All in all, it's a
20 min DIY, after lifting the car.
