I put a K&N stock replacement in...no improvement was noticed, but then again, I doubt you'll gain more than 1hp with it. Other than having a better filter that will last a lifetime with regular cleaning, I didn't feel any hp improvement, nor was I expecting to.

Awhile back I read an interesting article about improved air filters and conical filters. It went on to say that the throttle body will govern how much air comes in to the motor, so if the TB is open 20%, no matter how much air the filter is letting in, the TB is only going to let in so much air. At WOT when the TB is 100% open the improved air filter may let in more air and thus you might pick up 1-2hp, but then I thought, wouldn't that apply to a TB open at 20%?

Last year I put a K&N conical filter with the shield to keep out engine heat on my 4.7 V8 Grand Cherokee, and other than it being louder, the seat-of-the-pants meter registered 0 gain. All I saw was decreased gas milage because I kept getting on it to see if it was quicker. I ended up putting the stock box back on and selling the K&N setup on eBay...wasn't worth the $260 to me.
